OUR TERROIR

Bonnezeaux, Thouarcé, Le Mesnil, La Chouaniere...

SET OFF TO DISCOVER OUR VINEYARD.

Layon

The Les Canons estate is located in Bonnezeaux at the heart of the Layon Valley. Our vines are spread over several villages. First of all, Bonnezeaux on the right bank of the Layon, where the majority of our hillsides are cultivated. Thouarcé, “Le Mesnil”, on the left bank of the Layon, composed of some twenty well-exposed hectares grouped on a slaty shale plateau. Finally, “La Chouaniere” in the Les Alleuds municipality where our old Cabernets are grown.

L'Anjou Noir

The majority of the Les Canons estate is located on the Anjou Noir terroirs. Anjou Noir lies at the end of the Armorican Massif characterized by its primarily shaly soils, sandstone, quartz and volcanic rocks (rhyolites, spilites, phtanites, vitreous tuff, etc.). A million years underfoot! In addition, it enjoys the beneficial influence of the Loire and Layon rivers, the presence of hillsides that prove to be perfectly suited to vine-growing, along with the Anjou microclimate (the exquisite “mild Anjou climate” evoked by Joachim du Bellay in his famous poem “Happy, the man who, like Ulysses, finds sweet journey’s end”) that allows Anjou Noir to record one of the lowest rainfall levels in Val-de-Loire.

Our grape varieties

Chenin is king when it comes to grape varieties in Anjou. It has been grown in the Loire since the 9th century. It makes it possible to produce dry, sparkling and sweet wines. Our other white wine plots are made up of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Our red grape varieties are Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grolleau and Gamay.

En raison des fêtes de fin d’année toute commande passée entre le 19 décembre et le 7 janvier ne pourra être expédiée qu’à compter du 8 janvier.
